posted Jun 9, 2017, 3:07 PM by Ralph Gallo   [ updated Jun 9, 2017, 3:16 PM ]

Today's tour of the White House grounds / Visitor center and the Smithsonian Air and Space / American History Museums is complete and we are on the bus, heading home to Teaneck.

It was an eventful final day of our trip, and we even had an unexpected view of the President's motorcade leaving the White House (see the video in the album).

Factoring in a quick stop for dinner, our ETA is between 9:30 and 10pm.  I will send an updated message closer to our actual arrival time.

In the meantime, enjoy today's photos at https://goo.gl/photos/671XtGFh6x2mxHAD6

We'll see you at TCCS in a few hours...

Day 2 Update - June 8, 2017

We have just finished up day two of our trip and we had beautiful weather all day with PLENTY more walking (approx 17,00 steps / 8 miles!)

After breakfast at the hotel, we headed to the WWII Memorial and Washington Monument.  Following our tour of these sites, we visited the United States Holocaust Museum for two powerful exhibits - "Daniel's Story" and "Some Were Neighbors".

When it was time for lunch, we hit the L`Enfant Plaza Food Court, where we had several dining options to choose from.

Then, we were off to Arlington National Cemetery for a two-hour walking tour, including the changing of the guard and wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Afterwards, we viewed some more of the sights from the bus (including the Iwo Jima Memorial) before dinner at Au Bon Pain.

After dinner, we had an evening tour of the Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, and Vietnam Memorial.  Then it was back onto the bus for our trip back to the hotel.

Tomorrow, we will visit the outside of the White House before doing some souvenir shopping before touring the Smithsonian.  After that, we'll be heading home.  We anticipate an arrival time of 7-8pm and will keep you updated with an actual time from the road.

Have a great night...  See you tomorrow!

Day 1 Update - June 7, 2017

posted Jun 7, 2017, 6:01 PM by Ralph Gallo   [ updated Jun 7, 2017, 6:23 PM ]

Today was an excellent first day of our trip!  We had a smooth, traffic-free, ride down to D.C. and cooperative weather (cool and overcast) for all of our outdoor touring.

After visiting the office of NJ Representative Josh Gottheimer, we viewed a brief film and were given an extensive guided tour of the Capitol building.  This was followed by a stop in the Library of Congress and a photo outside the Supreme Court.

For the rest of the afternoon and early evening, our tour guide brought us to the MLK Memorial, FDR Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial.

After that, we took a brief ride into Virginia to drop off our guide and grab dinner. We have just checked into our hotel in Gaithersburg, MD and will be settling in rather quickly.

The kids should sleep very well (if my watch is correct, we took nearly 14,000 steps and walked almost 7 miles!)

Have a good night.  Feel free to email me if you need to reach out.  Another update to follow tomorrow...
