Hello TCCS Parents and Guardians...

I hope that everyone has had a fantastic and refreshing summer break!  Our entire staff will begin our annual training and preparation week next Monday and September is quickly approaching.  With this in mind, I wanted to share some important reminders and some new information pertaining to the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.

PARENT HANDBOOK:  The 2018-2019 TCCS Parent Handbook is available online at http://bit.ly/ParentHandbook18-19 and contains a wealth of important information about the school, including details regarding school security, arrival / dismissal procedures, student conduct policies, standardized testing dates, staff contact info, and more!  Please be sure to read through it to familiarize yourself with any changes or updates before the school year begins!

SCHOOL CALENDAR:  Please take a moment to review the school calendar with A-F letter days for the coming year, which is available online at http://bit.ly/TCCS18-19Calendar.  Our first day of classes will be Tuesday, September 4.  A digital calendar of events is also available on the school website (www.tccsnj.org) and is constantly updated.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT:  Mark your calendars!  Back to school night will take place on Thursday, September 20!  In order to start the year off on the right foot, we are hoping that representatives from all families can join us for this important event.

STAFFING UPDATES:  In preparation of the 2018-19 school year, there have been several instructional staffing changes that have been made over the summer.  At our 3rd and 4th grade level, Mr. Adam Fleischhauer will be teaching all Math classes and Ms. Sonja McDaniel will be teaching all Science classes.  Also at this grade level, Mr. Paul Bonney will be teaching all Writing classes.  At the 5th and 6th grade level, Ms. Suzanne Weiss will be teaching English Language Arts and Writers' Workshop.  In 5th and 6th Grade Social Studies, Mr. Willis Dunbar will be starting the year off as our teacher, but I'm sorry to share that he has decided to leave TCCS after more than 15 years of service.  We thank Mr. Willis for all that he's done at the school and appreciate his willingness to assist with the transition as we search for his replacement.

In addition to the above staffing changes, we are also excited to welcome two new part-time teachers / part-time paraprofessionals to the TCCS faculty:  Ms. Taylor Morgan (who was a student teacher at the school last year) and Mr. Paul Brancatelli (who will be teaching a number of P.E. classes this year).

CHARACTER EDUCATION:  In our never ending quest to teach the whole child, we have partnered with "Character Counts" (https://charactercounts.org) to implement a schoolwide character education program.  With help from their teachers, classmates, and families, all students in grades K-8 will be focusing on the following character values throughout the school year: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.  You can expect to receive more information about this program once the school year begins!

PARENT PORTAL:  In the coming days, you will be receiving an email containing your login information for the TCCS parent portal, where all parents will be able to view student information (schedules, homeroom assignments, etc.) for the coming year.  In addition, parents must update their contact information and answer the annual required "Parent Questions".  Information for the 2018-2019 school year will not be available in the parent portal until Monday, August 27.

LUNCH ORDERS:  I'm excited to share that the school has contracted with a new lunch vendor, Revolution Foods (https://www.revolutionfoods.com) for this school year!  Please note, however, that lunch service will not begin until October and students will need to bring their own lunch for the month of September.  Lunch orders and payment will once again be completed online.  Details and instructions for ordering and paying will be shared once the October lunch menu is available.  Please note:  If you meet the requirements for the Free or Reduced Priced lunch program, you MUST complete the required application (even if you have already qualified in the past) before you are able to order and receive lunch.  Paper applications will be sent home with your students on the first day of school.

AFTER SCHOOL AND BEFORE CARE PROGRAMS:  Online registration for our After School and Before Care programs is now open on the TCCS website.  If you are interested in enrolling in either of these programs (or would like more information), please use the links that are provided.  All interested families must register for the programs, even if they only plan on using them for Drop-In dates. Both programs will begin on the SECOND day of school (Wednesday, September 5), so please register as soon as possible, to ensure appropriate staffing.

BUS SERVICE:  If you qualify for bussing, you will be receiving a notification from the Teaneck Board of Education.  Please note: The school does not oversee the AM and PM student transportation program.  Any questions should be directed to the Teaneck Board of Education's Transportation Department.

PARCC SCORES:  We recently received paper copies of individual student score reports and will be mailing them to your homes in the coming days.

SUMMER READING AND MATH:  All students entering grades 1-8 must read over the summer and complete the assignments that were provided by teachers in June.  Please visit www.tccsnj.org/tccs-summer-reading for complete details.  As mentioned earlier this summer, online summer math work is encouraged, but missing assignments will be excused due to technical issues.  Please visit http://bit.ly/tccsmathsum18 for more information.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:  As you will see when you arrive on the first day of school, the construction of our new gym and creative arts suite is not yet complete, but it is still happening!  Keep an eye on your mailbox for an official update letter from our Friends of TCCS organization!

As always, Ms. Torres and I will likely be sharing some additional information and reminders as we get even closer to the first day and once the school year begins.  In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at rgallo@tccsnj.org.  Otherwise, enjoy the rest of your summer and we'll see you on September 4!

Thanks and Best Regards,
